Description

Charming apartment with private access to the sea in La Mortola, a quiet and peaceful seaside location a few miles from the border with France.

This apartment with private access to the sea is located in a historic villa known for its magnificent gardens.

The apartment of about 250 sqm is located on two levels and consists of a spacious living room with wide windows overlooking the garden and the sea, decorated with marble and hand painted doors. From the living room you can go to the kitchen and bathroom. On the second floor there is a master bedroom with a bathroom, two other bedrooms and two bathrooms.

A private terraced botanical garden on four hectares by the sea makes the property exceptional and unique. The arboretum, built in the mid-16th century, houses specimens of Mediterranean-climate plants from around the world.

The first respondents were some wealthy English plant lovers who were very good friends and neighbors of Hanbury. Between 1906 and 1923, Helen Willmott, a wealthy English heiress and landscape designer, planned to build two aqueducts, traced paths and footpaths, and planted exotic plants of all kinds, date palms and eucalyptus.

Various zones were created, each with a different microclimate, from Mediterranean oak, cypress and Aleppo pines, to dry arid shrubs, lavender, rosemary and scabiosa bushes, two olive groves, an orchard, a vegetable garden and spontaneous flora overlooking the sea. Among the most valuable species: Agathis Robusta, Encephalartos sp, Peumus boldus, Quercus Ilex, Pinus halepensis, Pinus sabiniana, Pitosporum tobira, Chamaerops humilis, Cotoneaster pannosus, Pistacia lentiscus, Rhamnus alaternus.
Among the vines are: Jasminium heterophyllum, Senecio angulatus and Senecio deltoides, both from South Africa and Smilax aspera.
Plants originating from dry climates include: Aberia Craffa, Seneci, Polygala myrtifolia, Mediterranean climatic bulboses, a collection of fifty aloe species, many agaves, Loxostylis alata, Eriocephalus africanus; many roses suitable for warm climates, Rosa Banxia, Rosa laevigata, Chinese and Indian hybrids, the rare variety "Sate nateur Lafollette", grown in Cannes by the gardener of Lord Brogum Busby around 1910.
